Circles in Squares

Just starting to update my new website and having information overload!

Here’s a photo of my most recent completed art quilt project: Circles in Squares. This was done to enter into the International Quilt Museum’s 2022 Modern Meets Modern Challenge.

The IQM selected 4 vintage quilts for inspiration and I chose the Carpenter’s Square, as I’d been working on a larger sized one in a different color palette for the Modern Quilt Guild’s QuiltCon (which I did not get finished for this year – but that’s another story!).  I tried two other versions of this pattern, one done in 1/4 inch scale and another one in 1/4 inch bias tape for applique. Nothing was going as planned so I landed on using appliqued 1 inch circles.

This transformed the piece from a very tight geometric piece into a swirled and organic one. Which I think I prefer!

I should know in a couple of weeks if the piece was selected for the exhibit.
